A day at lake wawasee

Jane and I had an unusual day off on a Thursday, yesterday. Some good friends of ours (Tim and Vicki) rented a house on Lake Wawasee, in Syracuse, IN, and invited us up for the day. They actually invited us for Wednesday night and Thursday, but Jane had an important meeting she needed to attend Thursday morning. So we drove up around 10:30 am and got home around 10:30 pm. I substituted this as my 4th of July holiday day, since the 4th fell during my vacation time. And it was a lovely day.

It was about 54 miles, and took about an hour to get there. And the place they were renting was very easy to get to. We took rt. 30 to Pierceton and then turned right on rt. 13. We turned right again at the Sleepy Owl restaurant, and there place was right behind it.

The house is actually for sale. They are apparently asking 1.2 million, and they expect that whoever buys it will just tear the house down and rebuild. I thought it was a pretty nice house. It has 4 or 5 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a nice deck along the lake, and a pier that goes out with boat docks. We spent most of the day outside.

When we got there we looked around the house, then we went for a boat ride around the lake. T & V have their own boat, and it was the first time I've ever ridden in a boat that wasn't just a fishing boat. It was nice. And there are some gorgeous homes around the lake. Plus I liked that it wasn't real busy on the water either, since it was a Thursday. After a ride around the lake we then went to The Frog for lunch. We pulled the boat up and sat outside. It was nice. I had a fish sandwich and cole slaw. Then we went back to the house and put on our swim suits. First we just sat on the dock in lounge chairs. It started to get a little warm, so we got in the water on these big floaty pads. We just stood there and talked for a long time. Then we got out and sat in the shade on the deck up by the house. Around 6:30 we changed clothes and headed to the other restaurant (can't remember the name) for supper. I had perch and french fries. It was good too. Then we went back to the house, and took a walk around the neighborhood. After that it was time to go, so we left about 9:30.

It was a beautiful day to be at the lake. Not a cloud in the sky, and even though it was supposedly in the 90's, since we were on the lake it seemed a lot cooler. It was almost perfect. Plus we always have nice conversations with these people. They're good to be around. Very easy going and nice people.

So it was an almost perfect day. Now I understand why people go to the lake. Though it did seem a bit odd that so many people who own homes there, or stay there, are from around here (Wells County). Joan's parent's house was just 3 doors down from where we were. Lots of Apostolics seem to have homes there. We even saw some Amish people there - several families. I was surprised they could be in a boat with a motor. Oh well, I guess all kinds of people like the laid back lifestyle of hanging out at the beach. I could sure get used to it.

A good day.
