Messy - 3

Just one quote from "Messy Spirituality" today. And it's actually something Yaconelli pulled from "The Sacred Romance" by Brent Curtis and John Eldredge. p. 57-58:
"From one religious camp we're told that what God wants is obedience, or sacrifice, or adherence to the right doctrines, or morality. Those are the answers offered by conservative churches. The more therapeutic churches suggest that no, God is after our contentment, or happiness, or self-actualization, or something else along those lines. He is concerned about all these things, of course, but they are not his primary concern. What he is after is us - our laughter, our dreams, our fears, our heart of hearts."
Of course, a good question is... are we offering these things to God: our laughter, dreams, fears, our heart of hearts -- us? One question Tom and I ask each other each week is, "What God-given dream are you nurturing?". That's a toughy, for me at least. Because it's easy to get wrapped up in a bunch of other "stuff", and so easy to lose track. Sometimes it's harder still to maybe realize we're not nurturing God's dream in our lives... and we're not willing to go through the mess of giving up the way we've become, to find the way we could be.

So... how easy do you laugh? dream? how are your fears? and how "is" your heart of hearts? Something to think about.

Peace, friends. Revolution starts within.
