This past Sunday we took a group of people from church to a Fort Wayne Tincaps game. I believe this is the third or fourth year in a row. This year we had 30 people, with a few no-shows. There was Jane and I, the Feipel's, Kasper's, Costello's, Kurtz's, Souder's, C&B Dafforn's, Kling's, Donna & Hilda, Shelley & RieAnn, and Mary and Kevin. We had 2 extra tickets and Jim gave them to a young couple at the gate. I thought it was a pretty nice group.
It was a hot, hot day. At least we were on the 3rd base side - section 112. It even started to rain at one point - though not for very long - and most of us didn't even move from our seats. It cooled things down briefly, but it was still pretty warm afterward. A nice day for a game though. The kids all seemed to have a pretty good time too.
After the game we invited everyone to our house for ice cream. We didn't even know that it was National Ice Cream Day, so that was a plus. I think there were 24 of us there for ice cream (Mia Kurtz threw up on the way, so they didn't come; nor Mary and Kevin). I was all worried that no one would show, and it ended up being a really good time. It was nice having a mix of young and old, and it was fun having all the kids running around playing together. We just bought vanilla and chocolate ice cream (3v & 2c) and then we had strawberries, blueberries, peanuts, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, and whipped cream for toppings. We also had root beer and cream soda for floats. Plus some pretzels. I think most people arrived at our house around 6 or 6:30, and it lasted until 8 or 9-ish. It really was a nice time. I wish we could do more things like that, and with more people.
So, something actually worked for a change. What a surprise.
