CPR certification

I was certified in CPR yesterday through the American Heart Association. This is required for my new job, and my boss was the instructor. It was a 3-hour course, which I also got paid for. I was actually the one who put the "infant dummies" together during my morning shift. Sam did the adults.

There were 13 of us taking the course. Some were getting certification and some were there for re-certification, but we all did the same thing. We were instructed in full CPR and AED use for adults, children, and infants, as well as the heimlich for choking. I was a little surprised because it was more in-depth than I thought it might be. I feel pretty confident I could actually help someone should the need ever arise (though I hope I never have to).

I had taken a "hands-only" CPR course about 5 years ago. It wasn't quite as intense, but was still useful. This certification is supposed to last 3 years I believe. I'm glad I took it, and also glad to know all YMCA employees are required to do so (at least I think so). You just never know.

On a somewhat unrelated note: While at work yesterday morning I was looking through the manuals and things at the front desk. I was quite impressed with how they do things. They have a pretty good handle on written processes for employees for just about any scenario. I was trying/hoping to do this at my last job, but felt it was not only unwelcome, but also unwanted. So, I guess there's that.

Anyway, I think it's always good to learn new things.
