Central time

This has nothing to do with time, other than the first time I worked at the Central Y. That's what I did yesterday.

I started at my regular post (Skyline) and worked a couple hours there, then went the 5-6 blocks over to Central and worked the front desk from 12-5 pm. The difference between the two places is greater than changing time zones. Skyline is nice and calm and quiet; central is almost exactly the opposite. There is a whir of activity and people are constantly coming and going. The phone also rings quite often. I never quite did figure out how to use the telephone. I probably hung up on half a dozen people (someone told me to just put it on "park" - but they didn't tell me that essentially just put them on hold).

Anyway, I survived. I was just filling in for someone who had quit. Hopefully I won't have to do it often. Not that it was bad, and I'm sure I would get used to it, but it was a lot of "out there" time. I prefer a much slower/quieter pace.

The best part was getting to work with daughter Carrie though. She is a membership enrollment specialist at Central (which is what I am at Skyline). Jane also used to work there in the same capacity. Carrie actually helped me out when she got done with her workout, then she came in to work at 4:30. I spent most of my shift working with Amenra (it's an Egyptian name). He was nice, but young.

So, that's what I did yesterday. Workin' on central time.
