No marathon - identity
This is why I should never get excited about anything. Dammit!
Little did I know that when I posted the pic of me running a marathon yesterday, it would be the last one in Fort Wayne (at least as part of the Fort4Fitness Fall Festival). Literally within minutes of posting it on my blog, I was sent an email from the Fort4Fitness organizers that they are discontinuing the marathon... and replacing it with their "triple crown" from past years (you run the half, 10k, and 4 mile, for 23.3 miles).
This is what I get for taking on the identity of a 'marathoner.' This is what I get for verbalizing a life-goal of running a marathon once a year for the next 20 years (or so). This is what I get for getting excited. This is what I get for wanting...
Oh, I know... it's not the end of the world. There are other marathons. I don't have to run a marathon every year. It doesn't have to be my identity...
But it's disappointing. And I'm sad.
Of course, I also realize this may not be about running a marathon. It may have more to do with... me trying to force an identity for myself. Rather than thinking I need to "be somebody," I really just need to be.
Anyway... such is life. It's not like I can run at the moment anyway. Shoot, I may never be able to run again for all I know. It was an interesting coincidence that the announcement came right after yesterday's post though.
Whatever.
