Jane back to the office, me sprinting
Well, it had to happen sooner or later. M'Lady had to go back to the office this week. Actually, last Friday (a week ago today) she was notified she could go back to 40 hours/week this week. Then this past Monday she was told she could come back to the office (if she wanted) starting Tuesday, April 28. So she did.
If I am remembering correctly she started working from home on Wednesday, March 25. So she was 1 day short of 5 weeks working from home.
I hated to see her have to go back but felt bad for her trying to work from home too. At her office she uses 2 large monitors so she can open up her spreadsheets and see what she's doing. At home she had to use our tiny laptop and it was just a real pain for her to try to do her job (which, of course, her boss never seemed to understand). The drawback is that while at home she could start work earlier in the morning, plus wear whatever she wanted.

As for me, I am still laid off (at least for the rest of the day). I filed for unemployment on March 24 and am still not entirely sure when I return to work. Our stay-at-home order is set to expire at midnight tonight, but the governor hasn't said what will happen after that. He's supposed to at his 2:30 pm press conference today. So, I may have to start back Monday, or maybe not.
Personally, I hope not. I hope they extend the stay-at-home order another couple weeks anyway. I am not very excited about going back to my meaningless, low-wage job; basically taking a pay cut (by half) so I can clean up people's sweat. Suuuuuure (note the sarcasm).

Anyway, on the Tuesday Jane returned to work (4/28) I did start something new. I rode my bike a mile down the road to the nearby middle school and did some sprint work on their track. It about killed me, but at least I'm only partly dead.
It's a blacktop track, and not in the greatest shape, but it's something. I did a couple medium-speed 400s, a couple 200s, and some 100s about as fast as I could go. I walked several laps too (so I was constantly moving). In total I did a 5k. Not to mention the 2 miles on the bike.
I can see where it really does help one become a better distance runner by incorporating speed work. But, man, it's been awhile. It's a whole different running form for me. My "running" is mostly heel-toe stuff at about a 10-minute mile pace. Sprinting up on my toes took a bit to get reacquainted with.
So, I did that. One time. I hope to do it maybe once a week if I can.
