Rage against the run (12 miles)

 Yesterday was one of those days where I woke up mad. I don't even know what I was mad about. I guess it didn't matter. I had slept good - got 7+ hours - but when the alarm went off I was not ready to face the world. It only got worse when I got to work.

It has been so slow at work. Slower than when we first reopened after the shutdown. And you know me, I think it's all my fault! I think I must have said or done something to everyone to cause them to not want to come there. It was an especially slow morning, and I was feeling pretty small.

Also, the Y is operating on a shoestring budget due to Covid (I guess depending on who you talk to), though I'm not sure that's why their online presence and app suck so bad. Long story short, I finally got fed up over the app and went into a rage just as my lovely wife was there. She kindly offered to get me some breakfast. I had enough sense to accept, but... she went to this trendy new place (Utopian) that she likes and... another long story short... I don't ever want anything from that place again! Nothing against her, but that was the worst sausage/egg biscuit and cup of coffee I have ever had!! (I'm sure my mood didn't help).

Anyhew, fortunately this was a day I got off work at 9 am. It was also one of the nicest days weather-wise that we've had in a long time. So I moved up my 'long run' day from Sunday to Friday and headed out. I didn't really even know where I was going or for how long. I just knew it needed to be long and far (relatively speaking).

I maintained a solid 10-minute/mile pace through 8 miles (which included a number of stoplights), then forced myself to slow down a bit. I felt good, but didn't want to injure myself. I ended up running 10 miles and walking 2 - experimenting with a walk/jog method from about 9.5 on. It felt good, and I felt better.

I also ran by this building twice and decided to stop and take some pics. I drive by it every day on my way to and from work. I love this building. I know some people find art to be useless... but not me. A song, or piece of literature, or painting - even the side of a building - can totally change my day. Maybe I'm just that shallow. That's one thing I love about Fort Wayne though - all the murals and artwork that's been added to downtown buildings and alleys. I think it has made a huge difference in the downtown area.

So, I guess the point is... when in a rage, go for a run. Unless, of course, the run turns out bad. Whatever. It worked on this day though. Probably not practical all the time...

***

"The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;
    he stretches out the heavens like a tent
and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.
He makes the clouds his chariot
    and rides on the wings of the wind.
He makes winds his messengers,
    flames of fire his servants."

(Psalm 104:2-4)
