I admit, I have never liked DJT. Not as a person before he was president, and especially not since. I did not/do not care for his demeanor, his moral values (or lack thereof), ethics, ideals, or anything about him. That is not why I opposed him so vigorously though. The above list is why.
Certainly I don't expect any politician to perfectly share my values as a follower of Jesus. I don't even expect that from other "Christians." The political foray is so 'other' that it would be insane to think otherwise. I do, however, expect there to be a certain level of diplomacy and integrity to go along with the job of president of the United States.
All that to say, if I could be in any way objective, there were a few things trump did right. In fact, he did not get us into any military wars overseas (though he incited quite a few battles here). I will also say that I don't ever remember this many people talking about politics in my lifetime. If that's a good thing.
I have also never been a big fan of Joe Biden either. I do at least look forward to a restored sense of decency and respect for the office, the country, and humanity in general though. Say what you want about him, he has been a lifelong public servant. He's made plenty of mistakes and I'm sure there will be plenty to criticize him for, but I believe he is perhaps the best person to try to transition from the 45th president to whoever the 47th will be.
I am not ready to breathe easy just yet though. I'm not sure even God knows what trump and his supporters may still try. I can only hope and pray this transition goes peacefully and without incident.
As far as I'm concerned, president #45 is no longer of any consequence – other than being brought to justice by our legal system. Now the American people are on to #46. This president doesn’t get a pass on anything either, but at this point the only question of consequence is… what will we do? You and me. It’s not about *him* anymore (45), it is now about us. How will we address the issues at hand? How will we participate as productive citizens? How will we treat our fellow human beings? We all know healing needs to take place. We all want things to be better. Will we work towards making that happen, or work towards furthering the divide? I hope to be better, to be involved, to be more positive, and I hope you will be too.
That's all I hope to say about the past four years. Onward and upward.
