Yes... I am thinking about another marathon this year. My fourth in four years. It seems a bit of a stretch right now considering I can barely eek out a 5k. Plus so many events are still up in the air. Still, I hope I'm getting over this respiratory thing, and if enough people get vaccinated, maybe there can be some things happen this summer. I really hope so!
Awhile ago I consulted findmymarathon.com and came up with a list of them nearby. I'm not big on traveling or "destination" races. I prefer staying close to home. I REALLY wish Fort Wayne could figure out a way to hold a marathon. At any rate, these seem to be the most likely options right now. They're the closest that have a relatively flat course:
- 9/25/21 - Grand Lake Marathon, Celina, OH
- 10/8-10/21 - Boston Marathon Virtual
- 10/17/21 - Grand Rapids Marathon
- 11/6/21 - Indianapolis Monumental Marathon
- 11/13/21 - Veterans Marathon, Columbia City, IN
I would like to do the Veterans Marathon, because it's closest. I'm just not sure about running that late in the year, and if I would get injured like last year, then I'm just out of luck.
Right now I am leaning pretty heavily toward the virtual Boston. I could do it wherever I like, and wouldn't have to worry about crowds, lodging, or anything like that. It's limited to the first 70,000 though, so I feel like I better register soon if I'm going to. My biggest concern is the app used to time it. My phone won't hold a charge that long with most gps apps running, and I doubt my watch will be suitable. I would think I could figure something out though.
If not Boston, I'm probably thinking of the one in Celina, Ohio. It's only about an hour away, and I believe the course is two loops around a lake or something. I don't mind loops. I kind of like knowing where I am and the familiarity.
So, I don't know. I need to be deciding soon. I'm hoping this blog post will give me a little nudge toward doing so. I really miss training for something.
