"When it rains, it..." Well, you know how it goes. This past Wednesday was my first time running in the rain this year... and it poured!
I was around the 2.5-mile mark when it started raining. I went out 3 miles from home and turned around (for a 5/1 run/walk). From around mile 3 to 5 was a total downpour. It was also partly along a stretch of road where the sidewalk is right next to a four-lane, and every car going by splashed me more.
I really didn't mind though. I've run in the rain plenty. Sometimes it's even quite enjoyable. There's something sort of... I don't know... defiant, maybe. It also gives you a sense of accomplishment when you're done. Like, "I did that... and it didn't hurt me." Btw, I maintained about a 10-min./mile pace, and it felt pretty good.
Aaaand, a homeless guy who often hangs around this section of trail helped me gain some perspective. When the rains came he skedaddled under the bridge. As I ran by him I thought of how fortunate I am to be able to go home and take a shower and put on clean, dry clothes.
Anyway, it happened. Just another day in the life, I guess.
