They say stupid is as stupid does... And I did something stupid today!
Yes, I ran 13.1 miles in the afternoon sun. That wasn't the stupid thing though (but it is my longest run so far this year). What was stupid? Eating that fantastic breakfast pictured above before my run!!
I just worked 3 hours this morning (5-8 am), so I thought I would splurge and get a nice breakfast before my run. We didn't have much of a 'carb-loading' supper last night, so pancakes sounded good. And they were! On the corner of my building is a really nice restaurant (well, two, actually, but I'm not going to eat at Ruth's Chris). Proximo is a little more reasonable, though still reserved only for special occasions for someone like me. And this order of Buttermilk pancakes, eggs, and bacon did not disappoint, even getting it take-out to bring home.
But I know better than to eat like that before a run - especially a half marathon distance. What was I thinking?
Anyway, in spite of the gas, and upset stomach, and just feeling all-around sluggish, it wasn't a terrible run. I finished right at 2 hours 20 minutes flat. That's probably faster than I should have gone for a training run, but I felt pretty good - at least for the first 6-8 miles. It started getting a little tedious towards the end, but I didn't feel any blisters or really have any muscle soreness. My upper body was probably more so than anything. I probably shouldn't have lifted weights this morning (stupid thing #2).
I wore my black Brooks ghosts again, and went back to my old toe socks. They're a little thicker than the new ones, and seemed better. I also got some GU Gels, and had two, along with plenty of water.
I do think I've figured out what's happening with my left foot. I sensed where I could develop a blister (and have before) between the ball of my left foot and the big toe. I think it's because when I come down that foot sort of slides a little from the heel. So I'm thinking about trying the new Hoka Clifton 7's I got, because they have less of a drop from heel to toe. I like the Brooks, but if this is the issue, they may have to be shorter distance shoes.
And... when it was done, the cat came to comfort me while I lay with my legs up the wall for about 20 minutes. Then a soak in an epsom salt bath, and I feel pretty good!
