I have written before about the Discovery Bible Study method. It's a simple small group format where you read a passage of Scripture and consider several questions, such as:
- What does this story tell me about God?
- What does this story tell me about people (or myself)?
- If this is God's word for our lives how will I obey it?
- Who am I going to tell?
We did this for years with another couple (though we slightly altered the questions). They say this method works because it's so simple. The structure is easy to teach, easy to remember and easy to replicate. That means anyone can run a DBS with anybody, anywhere.
And now... there is an app for that! You can find it online at https://discoverapp.org/, or in the app store on your phone.
Personally, I thought the iphone app was a little clunky at first, but maybe that was just me. Once I got the hang of it it works okay.
A friend of mine is going to use this for small groups in his church. I think it would be nice to be in another small group sometime and use it. The hard part is finding a time, since I have to go to bed so early during the week. I'm sure it can be done...
