The unknown

I start my day (at least my weekdays) with a big ol' cup of tea. I have five different kinds, one for each day. My Tuesday tea is Yogi 'Honey Chai Turmeric Vitality,' and there's always a little note on the teabag tag. This week my Tuesday teabag tag said...

"The unknown is where all outcomes are possible; enter it with grace."

I'm not sure who said that, but it seems a better way to face the unknown than with fear, which is what most of us do (at least I do).

And, another thing, I've always felt people get grace and mercy mixed up. I think sometimes we even view them as the same thing. Perhaps understanding the difference can help in how we face the unknowns in life.

Again, I'm not sure who said it - I think I heard it in a DC Talk song - but they said something like, "Mercy is not getting what we deserve; grace is getting what we don't deserve." 

This is, of course, in a Christian sense. God has mercy on us and doesn't annihilate us. And His grace is His favor; an empowering that allows us to live free each and every day. 

That reminds me of something Donald Miller said in Blue Like Jazz. Something about how freeing it is to discover that God really likes me!

I mean, if God really likes us, and wants for us to live life.... If we enter our unknowns full of His empowering amazing grace.... perhaps all things really are possible.

It's a nice thought at least.
