"Typically, you will be forced to act like a servant if you once were in a position of power and you lose that power. That's what happened to Jesus and He began to change the hearts of men. If you feel like you are losing control or power, don't fear. Instead, see it as an opportunity to serve like Jesus did." -Travis BoddenBoy did this smack me upside the head the other day. Just what I needed to hear (read)!
If I were still an active pastor in the denomination that holds my ordination, Travis would be my regional director. I don't know him well, but from everything I do know, he seems to be someone worth listening to.
You all know I moan and whine and feel sorry for myself more than anybody. Perhaps it's because of this! Maybe it's no other reason than I simply can't get over not having any power or control anymore. Not that I ever had a lot, but I definitely DO NOT have any now.
My days consist of getting up early, rushing to work in the dark to unlock the doors, make the coffee, clean off machines, put things in their place, wash towels, wipe up sweat, wait on members, greet people with a smile, listen to their problems, leave them with a "have a nice day," then finally go home worn and tired, slog a few miles on the trail, sit with the wife and cat a bit, and head to bed as close to 8pm as I can. Then do it all over again the next day. I have no control over policies or procedures, and sit on the bottom rung of employment within the company. Outside of work I really don't have much of a life, so there's nothing there either.
Have I lost power, or is this my great opportunity to be like Jesus? The real Jesus, not the one I often imagine him to be.
I want to look at this quote from Travis over and over. It was just what I needed to hear...

Psalm 119:25-27
"I’m feeling terrible—I couldn’t feel worse!
Get me on my feet again. You promised, remember?
When I told my story, you responded;
train me well in your deep wisdom.
Help me understand these things inside and out
so I can ponder your miracle-wonders."
