Did you watch the Super Bowl? And by "Super Bowl" I mean the pre-game show, the national anthem, introductions, commercials, half-time show, awards presentations, oh, and the actual game itself!
It truly is a spectacular event. Or maybe you could just say spectacle. Soooooo much goes into it; so much is going on.
And what did you think? Certainly you have an opinion, don't you? After all, isn't that why they do it... to get you to watch it and then talk about it?
Every year there are those who debate the half-time performers and performance (there's even this: Every Super Bowl Halftime Show Ranked from Worst to Best). Which commercial was best (or worst)? This year everyone is talking about He Gets Us. Who deserved this? Who deserved that? Who was great? Who stunk? And on and on and on it goes...
Boy can we get sucked in.
A friend of mine actually listened to the game on AM radio!! I thought that was great! It's like the grandest form of flipping off the consumerist/capitalist machine imaginable. “I’m going to participate in your event, but for all the reasons you don’t want me to!!” Hahahaha.
Well, I don't know. I'm at a place right now where I just don't really care. Not that it maybe doesn't matter, but that doesn't matter to me.
Honestly, I can't really tell if I'm being distracted, or if maybe I'm being focused elsewhere. I've been fairly immersed in the boy's dissertation. It's pretty mind-boggling (in a good way). Also the Native American stuff; humility stuff; Examen stuff; contemplative stuff...
And I'm not complaining. At least not about that.
So, the Super Bowl... maybe it was super. Or not.
Does it matter? Maybe. Maybe not.
I'm pretty sure something does though. The question is.... what?

I didn't watch the game. I didn't watch the NFL for the rest of the season so I figured it would be hypocritical of me to watch just one game. I've watched the NFL other seasons and I have happy memories of watching Denver play in the snow while I was ensconced in Urbana '84. Also my dad was a Preacher in San Jose the season that the 49ers made it to the Super Bowl and what would have been a Big Deal was now a VERY BIG DEAL. But this was none of those things, not by a long shot, so I did not watch.
I never knew your dad was a preacher in the lower states. I thought you'd always lived in Canada. I guess you learn something every day! :)
And I feel the same about the NFL. I used to be way into it, but not so much anymore.
