In case you've been wondering... I am "running" again/still. Slowly. After a few months off it's not been too pleasant just yet, but at least everything appears to be working. Mostly.
I'm back to four days a week of running and one or two days of 60 minutes on the Assualt fan bike. Midweek is usually two days of 3/1 running/walking and one of 4/1, then on Saturdays I've been adding a mile running each week. My longest so far was 7 miles last weekend. It feels weird to call them "long" runs because... relatively speaking, they're not.
Pacing has been the big issue. Every now and then I can get under a 10-minute mile (I struggled through one at 9:15 yesterday), but the long Saturday runs have been around 11 minutes. And sometimes - on any day - I just can't get going. A few times I've had to stop and walk a half mile in and then start back up at a slower pace.
Maybe I do this every year, but it seems worse this year. My legs feel tight, and I get out of breath sooner. Possibly because of my age, or I suppose maybe I have had covid at some point and it's affected my lungs. Who knows. I'm feeling old and lacking energy.
Anyway, I am presently hoping to do a half marathon in the middle of April. It will likely be quite slow and include some walking. In mid-May I hope I can start training for a fall marathon again. We'll see. Right now I'm giving consideration to the Quad Cities Marathon September 24th.
For shoes I've been wearing the New Balance 880v12 that I bought last year. I really like them. I need to buy a couple new pair and will for sure get another of these. I've been wearing Brooks Ghosts for several years and I don't know if I'll get another pair of those or maybe get the ultra padded Glycerin. It seems weird not having any new shoes in reserve.
So, that's where I'm at with running.
Oh... the punchline, you ask? I don't know. I only know the running joke.
Me. :)
