I recently bought this Black & Decker LE750 2-in-1 Landscape Edger & Trencher. I'd been wanting one for awhile, but the gas powered ones are a bit pricey for no more space than we have. This is a corded electric one, and the reviews I read weren't too terrible. So when I saw it on sale at Menards for like $90 I thought "what the heck?".
I used it a couple weeks ago around our patio. The ground was really hard and dry. While it did cut through the dirt, it was a bit more of a chore than I'd hoped. I am thinking if we get some rain the ground will be soft enough that it should work pretty well.
I've pretty much given up on cordless items like this though. While my weedeater runs on batteries, they're all about to die off and I think I will just get a corded replacement. Batteries just don't seem to last as long as they used to, and all these batteries are filling up our landfills. Our yard isn't that big that I can't drag a cord along. If we had a bigger lawn I would probably go with gas-powered. Cordless-ness is only a convenience as far as I'm concerned, and I don't need it.
So, we'll see. I need to do the front sidewalk and driveway one of these days. Hopefully I'll find the motivation before the snow is flying again...
