The very things...

So, how are you doing? Feeling 'on top of the world,' are you? I hope so. But if not... if you're like me... there are some good days, but mostly... oof. Why, oh why, do I keep doing the same stupid things, I ask myself.

Well, maybe that's the point.

In chapter 14 of Philip Yancey's 'The Jesus I Never Knew' (p. 273), he writes this...

"The very things that make us feel inadequate, the very things that plunder hope, these are what God uses to accomplish his work. For proof, look at the cross."

 And later,

"It is through the Servant's wounds that we are healed, said Isaiah -- not his miracles. If God can wrest such triumph out of the jaws of apparent defeat, can draw strength from a moment of ultimate weakness, what might God do with the apparent failures and hardships of my own life?"

I'm not saying we go full bore into the things that bring us down... but maybe try to look on the bright side: They haven't done us in yet!

What can we learn through our struggles? Our failings? Our inadequacies?

This morning I'm wondering: Maybe it's not about "being better" (or getting better). I can't say what it IS about, but... Here I am, Lord...
