Blood test treat

I know what you're thinking. I made some kind of test treat out of blood for Halloween. Nope.

What really happened is I went in for a blood test this morning (for my annual physical), and got myself a treat afterward (Meh, you probably knew that anyway, didn't you?).

This is something I've been putting off for three weeks. You know, because who doesn't want to have three vials of blood sucked out of your arm - not to mention the 12-hour fasting. Also, I just wasn't feeling all that great mentally this morning. I was in a hole and wasn't sure if I could drag myself off the couch or not. Plus I didn't know if I wanted this to be ready for my doctor visit next week, because I'm already double booked into an appointment and will likely have other things to discuss. In the end I figured it was already 8am and I hadn't had anything to eat or drink yet, so what the heck, I may as well toggle over to the lab and get it over with.

The last time I'd had a blood test done at the lab where my doctors office is there was a line a mile long. I don't know what the deal was, because today I got there at 8:15 and there were only two people in front of me. I was there about 25 minutes total. So that was nice.

The other thing that was nice was... once I was done I realized I felt a lot better. Kind of like, "Oh, so I CAN actually do something today!" So I decided to treat myself to breakfast. I headed south on Bluffton Road and pulled into the drive-thru at McD's. As I sat there waiting my turn though... my mind slowly began working. I thought, "You know, even though I THINK this stuff tastes good... it actually doesn't. And it's probably not as good for me as something I would make either." So I pulled out of the line of cars and headed home. I made myself a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and it tasted MUCH better!

Sometimes the things we think are true aren't really true. Like fast food. We may have fond memories, or it may seem easier, maybe even taste better initially... but reality says otherwise. This can be true of other things as well (like alcohol, for one). I'm glad I reconsidered.
