I read or re-read 18 books in 2023. That's probably more than I've done in awhile. While some were excellent, all were good. I don't know that I could even venture a 'top 5' because what I might recommend for one person might not be good to another. I would recommend all of them to someone though.
So, here's the list, which is just kind of nice to look over for me personally as I think back on the time I spent with each of them...
- Learning Humility, Richard Foster
- Critical Limits, Isaac Horwedel (PhD dissertation)
- Tattoos On The Heart, Gregory Boyle
- Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesterton
- The Lakota Way, James Marshall III
- Tortilla Flat, John Steinbeck
- Aesop's Fables
- The Jesus I Never Knew, Philip Yancey
- Rethinking Life, Shane Claiborne
- Revelation for the Rest of Us, Scot McKnight & Cody Matchett
- Mission Is The Shape of Water, Michael Frost
- Cannery Row, John Steinbeck
- An Arrow Pointing to Heaven, James Bryan Smith
- Black Elk Speaks, John G. Neihardt
- A More Christlike God, Bradley Jersak
- Dopamine Nation, Dr. Anna Lembke
- A Different Way, Christopher A. Hall
- Faith Like A Child, Lacy Finn Borgo
I already have a stack ready to go for 2023, which includes my newest four (Christmas presents). I'm actually excited to get to work on them. I can't say I've anticipated reading like this in quite some time - maybe ever! It's weird, but a good feeling nonetheless.
