I guess my blogging streak from last week sort of petered out. Maybe there was too much going on this week. I intended for some of these to be stand-alone posts, but, here we are...
- Oof, I had a nasty 19-or-so-hour afib ordeal Tuesday into Wednesday. Boy, just when I think I'm getting over it, or at least getting a handle on it... BAM. It started Tuesday afternoon when I unthinkingly grabbed a cold drink out of the fridge and immediately took a drink. Dang. I felt the erratic heartbeat right away and tiredness soon overtook me. So I vegged most of the rest of the day, thinking it would revert at any time. I took an extra Diltiazem before bed and expected to wake up back in rhythm. Nope. I waited until 8AM and sent my EP doctor a Kardia EKG reading and explained the situation to him, then I thought I'd try going for a run to see if that helped. When I returned the EP doc had replied, "You are having a lot of extra beats. Trying to sustain afib but runs of extra beats..." So maybe it wasn't technically afib, but it felt like it! He suggested I make an appointment with his nurse practitioner asap and we may need to use a stronger med and/or redo the ablation. HOWEVER, after I read that, I noticed that I was back in a normal sinus rhythm! The run must have worked!! So I texted him that and since I already had an appointment with him in June we're just going to wait until then and no need to contact the NP. I felt immediately better once I was back in rhythm, but, geez, I'm getting tired of this. I guess it could be worse.
- Fortunately, I felt better Wednesday afternoon/evening because it was our 42ND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! That's crazy to even think about. We went to Cork 'N Cleaver and both had the filet, baked potato and salad bar, and shared a bottle of the Francis Coppola Cabernet. It ain't cheap ($187 including tip), but it is well worth it while we can still swing it once a year!
- I do plan to elaborate on this... I finished reading the Bible chronologically on Tuesday! I/we used the Joni & Friends Chronological Bible-in-a-Year plan. Jane has managed to keep to the daily readings, but I started devouring large swaths each day at some point (and then would take weekends off). Mostly I listened (and also read along) using the Youversion App with the Anglicanized NIV reader. I tell you what... it really did change me! For the better!! I'll go into more detail later, but I was really happy about this undertaking at this time. Though, I have to admit, I'm feeling a little sad that it's over now...
- So, I'm sure you're wondering what I'm reading now... I started in on 'Jesus Changes Everything: A New World Made Possible' by Stanley Hauerwas (edited by Charles E. Moore). I had actually already read a little of it, but started over from the beginning again on Wednesday. I am liking it, and hope to post some tidbits now and then.
- "His desire? To 'foment a modest revolution by forcing Christians to take themselves seriously as Christians.' That is what this book is about, to challenge Christians about their Christianity by shaking them out of their customary ways of thinking and living, so they can be more faithful to Christ." - Charles Moore (on why Hauerwas wrote the above book)
And, there ya have it. That's how this week has gone -- along with cleaning the house and yardwork in preparation for us hosting our "old people's" church group tomorrow night. I'm about beat! I'm glad it's Friday!!!
Peace
