Trip to buda & shane claiborne

This past weekend we made a quick trip back to the old hometown of Buda, IL. Nothing in particular, just the usual - visit with my mom, and Jane visited with a couple of her brothers.

I guess I already mentioned the storms in last Friday's post. No major damage, other than my mom had several holes punched in her siding by the hail. Otherwise, I cleaned up some dead bugs in the basement, picked up sticks in the yard, put out four bags of mulch, and wrote down several phone numbers of people to do landscaping and tree service for her. The rest of the time the two of us sat and watched NBA playoff basketball.

Jane spent a little time Friday night with her brother Keith, went shopping with my mom Saturday morning, and then spent most of the afternoon/evening with Keith and part of the time with her brother Mark.

Both the trip there and back were without serious trouble or nuisance.

When we got back Sunday night we went to see Christian author, activist, and organizer Shane Claiborne (pictured above). It seems another lifetime when we first read his book The Irresistible Revolution (and others), and eventually started using Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals.

It was a packed house at the Plymouth Congregational Church chapel. We saw several people we knew, and one other person from our church (a lot of people "meant to" go). Still, it was nice... even though we were both pretty tired.

So, it was a nice weekend. After a few chilly days, it has warmed back up to the mid-70s today...
