We became the proud grandparents of a little boy yesterday - Bennett Andrew. He weighed in at 9 lbs. even, and was 21 inches long. He had a nice head of darkish hair too. A very handsome young guy. And I'll give him special props for being born on an easy-to-remember date: 10-11-12.
Drew and Carrie went into the hospital (Lutheran) at 9 pm on the 10th. They wanted to induce her because they were afraid the baby might be getting too big. He finally decided to join us at 2:01 pm on the 11th, after about an hour of pushing. Carrie looked very good afterward, even if she was a bit tired.
We kept Anna Wednesday night (and again last night), and got a text when she started pushing. That was our signal to come to the hospital. So we headed up right away and sat in the waiting room with one other family. Anna was very good, and even shared her new Etch-A-Sketch with the other two toddlers in the waiting room. I think it was about 2:15 pm when Drew finally texted us a picture. We were very happy to get it.
We stayed up at the hospital the rest of the day, and Isaac and Ricci showed up a little after 5 pm. I had to leave around 6:30 to go get fish fry supplies with Jim, but it was probably just as well because I seemed to have developed a nasty head cold yesterday and my nose was running like a faucet. So I didn't want to be around Bennett too much.
I should also point out that apparently they aren't sure if they are going to spell Bennett with one "t" or two just yet. So I could be editing this post. I think two would be my choice, because kids have it hard enough without having to deal with a weird spelling, but... one "t" wouldn't be too random, and I'm sure I would get used to it. Makes no difference to me.
I wish I could shake this cold so I could go hold the little guy. I imagine there will be plenty of time for that later though. I'm a very proud grandpa nonetheless.
