I'm not, but...

I don't have any plans to give up caffeine, but I thought this pic was HILARIOUS! MR is giving it up (and that's where I got the pic). He says it's helped his stomach, helped him sleep better, and made life all-around pretty good.

I actually should give up coffee. I have cut back, and I hardly drink pop anymore. I could do better though. I just read this morning that to increase your metabolism you should eat something every four hours. Otherwise your body thinks you're starving and it starts to store fat. Of course, you need to be careful WHAT you eat every four hours. Processed foods are of the devil (chips, cookies, canned foods). Natural stuff is best. I try to snack on fruit or a veggie between meals.

So... aren't you glad you know that? :) Time to bug out.

Get this, Dan...you'll "love" it.

Sunday before our worship service, I happened to walk up on the couple who teaches my 5th grader's Sunday school class; they were talking with a mom of one of the boys in his class.

This mom was BERATING them for bringing doughnuts in for a snack for the kids! She actually asked them "Why are you bringing in crap for the kids when you could be bringing in granola and fruit for them to eat? Our bodies are temples of the holy spirit...".

Had I not heard this with my own ears, I wouldn't have believed she was serious...but serious she was. I wanted to just shake her and tell her to be thankful this couple is INVESTED in our children; they are committed to teaching them EVERY week and spend their own money for snacks and go out of their way to build community (even among fifth graders) and teach with cool object lessons (they actually brought in a cow's heart a few weeks ago for a lesson).

Anyway, I realize this mom doesn't speak for all, doubtful for anyone else, but she would definitely be in the camp of those who call chips and cookies "devil" food.

lol, wow, this is a mouthful! When I read your post, it brought that to mind.

LOVE the kitty pic...I might have to lift it from ya ;).

Wow, a couple of satan's minions right there in your church, huh? And teaching Sunday School to boot! :)

Actually, it's something I do struggle with in our church. We have coffee/juice and cookies laid out every Sunday morning. Which I LIKE. But I struggle with people loading up the kids on sweets - especially during class, and without their parents permission. Some people really are concerned about such things - and probably rightly so. I know I have tried to give up all cookies, cakes, and chips myself. But... you know, ya gotta pick your battles.

Thanks for sharing about how terrible your church is. It made me feel better. :)

Robin.
Oh... you are completely right about being thankful for a couple like that though. Didn't mean to dismiss that. Absolutely.

Being a poor post-college individual as I am, I have really had to be careful about what kind of food i buy - not only price wise, but also making sure i'm actually buying food and not crap. Some comments:

1-Would anyone be willing to help me open a grocery store for people who live alone? Some examples: half loaves of bread and half bags of salad.
2-Why is fresh food so darn expensive. I read some where that it is actually better for me to buy those frozen dinners (love healthy choice steam bowls!) that have veggies in them than to not eat veggies. Frozen veggies are kind of sick because they get mushy but at least I don't have to throw half of them away.
3-Cookes may be of the devil but one great find I have made recently are Kashi's Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Chip cookies. a.) 7 whole grains. b.) dark chocolate is good for you in moderation. I eat one a day and it satisfies my junk food needs.

That's enough I suppose - just don't touch my coffee.

Actually, one more. I'm a huge snacker - you know this. Where I work though, there is always junk food everywhere. Doughnuts, cookies....blah. So I keep a jar of Jif reduced fat peanut butter and a spoon in my desk. Saves me every time! And I never eat meat to the protien is a plus!

So is that the jar of peanut butter you used to keep in your car, or do you still have one there too? :)

I always carry a can of spinach with me.

I actually don't have one in my car anymore. That one started because sometimes I had to go right to work from class and I needed a filler inbetween.

I forgot about that. Haha...
