No freaking kidding - that's what it said. Yeah, I could see that being the name of my punk band. Hehe. Click on the link and see what your band name should be (and let us know).
OK, so I was going to leave some really thoughtful comment to the blog above this one 'cause I've been reading Thomas Merton and it's good stuff. But I got distracted by THIS blog and instead of posting something pithy and thought-provoking, am just here to tell you that my band's name is The Gagging Samoans. It just doesn't get any better than that at the end of a pretty crummy day. :) Good stuff, Dan.
"Gagging Samoans" is great! It reminded me of Hunter S. Thompson (sorry, I grew up in Boulder in the 60s and 70s and have an autographed copy of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", and think HST was perhaps the finest writer in that time period before the drugs really did finally catch up with him...but anyway, on to the comment! :-). The "Gagging Samoans" made me think of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and how great "My Samoan Lawyer" would be for a band name.
I envy the person who came up with the band names Web site (perhaps influenced by Dave Barry, who always comments on something being a great name for a band). The best I ever came up with, as a computer programmer, was the idea to create a program to generate and then copyright/trademark all possible subdivision names. The basic program would simply join two words together, usually with a geological/geographical theme (plus randomly adding Ye Olde English variations to whatever came up).

Ha! These are great. I wonder how this generator knows our distinct personalities. :)
And, Jim, you should market that generator. You can donate the money to my church. :) And I like Thompson too. Though I didn't read 'Fear and Loathing...' but loved the movie.

"The Blow Up Stockbrokers"
The garage band I played bass in when I was a high school dropout was "American Standard" - we named ourselves after the toilet company. :-)
"Meryl Streep"
Okay, I actually got that from "The Money Pit"
"The Bad-ass Poodles."
Rock & roll really is dead.
"Meryl Streep!" Ha! We just watched "The Money Pit" again the other night. Laughed 'til it hurt.

I can't leave this thread alone! :-)
