Church pews re-done

Yesterday we had our church pews re-padded and re-upholstered. A 3-man crew arrived at 10:30 am and worked until 6:45 pm. They weren't real happy when they took the upholstery off the first one and saw that the old padding had just disintegrated underneath. It was a mess. I heard them muttering that it might take more than one day to do it. But they worked hard and got it all done in one. They look real nice.

I talked to the crew a little off and on throughout the day. The leader said last year he spent 30 weeks on the road. He said that was nice, because then he just drew unemployment for the other 22 weeks. But one year he spent all but 8 weeks on the road. After they left our place last night they were driving to Pennsylvania for a job today; then New Jersey for a job the next day; then New York. Ugh. I would not like that kind of a life.

Anyway, here are some pics, starting with the old and working towards the new (click on the pic to enlarge).

Given the law of unintended consequences, let us know if the new more comfortable pews end up with more people nodding off during services. :o)

I thought it meant I could preach longer.

The folks will probably be restless for a few weeks trying to reform their groove in the seat.

@The Other Jim:

Maybe they should have been repadded with memory foam! :o)

Bingo.

Dan call those guys back and have them put some memory foam down. The folks will thank you for it later.

I don't know, would memory foam be the missional thing to do? :)

James 2:3-4 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

I just found another Jim who agrees with us suggesting that good, quality, equal seating is important for all. Yes, memory foam is missional.

They look great! Can I ask who did your re-upholstery? It looks similar to fabric and pews that we sell at pews.com, but not exact.

Enjoy your new pew - hopefully they won't be too comfortable. ;-)
