Yesterday we had the executive director of our denomination (Ed) speak to our church. It was the first time he had ever been there. He and his wife were both there. It was nice. He shared briefly about some of what is happening around the world in the cggc, then he gave a fine sermon from Mark 9. It was nice to not only sit and listen to some good preaching, but to actually be drawn into the story. Very nice.
I had actually mentioned this date to people on several occasions, hoping we would have a good crowd for this. Partly because our Sunday crowds haven't been so good lately and I was hoping to change that, and partly just because I wanted the people of our church to come and hear/see someone from our denominational headquarters. I don't think we feel a lot of connection with our denomination. I think if most people would just meet the people there they would realize they are just like us. Plus, to be honest, I just didn't want to be embarrassed with a really small crowd. Anyway, I was happy to see that some people actually did make the effort to be there, and some actually had the audacity to invite some friends to come with them (imagine that!). Although there were plenty of people who are there almost every week who chose this day to NOT be there. I knew that would happen. Always does. People are strange.
But... it was a good day. Next Sunday we're planning to have our Sunday gathering outside under the pavilion.

I believe it was actually Mark 9. You should pay attention :)
Thanks Carrie. I changed it. I guess it was chapter nine, VERSE TWO, where he started.
