We had our first nice visit with the neighbors last night. And, actually, more than one of them.
We went on our usual evening walk, and when we came back to our block we saw the neighbors right beside us (Matt & Melinda) outside. So we stopped and chatted in front of their house. Then, pretty soon here came Bruce from across the street... And pretty soon his wife (Penny) came over too. So we probably stood out on the street and chatted together for a good 45 minutes or so. It was nice.
Sometimes I get discouraged, because I didn't think it would be this hard to make friends with the neighbors. But I guess it just takes time, patience, availability, and lots of walks.
We've also noticed the couple at the end of the street (with the dogs) have started to be a lot friendlier lately too. She talks to us quite a bit now. Plus Bill and Sue, who have always talked to us.
We would still like to throw a block party someday, but I don't want to push it too hard just yet. Someday.
Neighbors are good. Being neighborly is too.
