Jane starts a new job
M'lovely Lady starts at a new place of employment today. She will be an "enrollment specialist" at the downtown branch of the local YMCA. It is a part-time job, but she's hoping it may open the door for something full-time at one of the branches eventually.
She will be training both tonight and tomorrow night. Fortunately we have no Holy Week activities planned. She doesn't know what her hours will be beyond that, but the plan seems to be for her to be there late-mornings to early-afternoons. I have a feeling things will be quite fluid initially, but she's excited about working there.
It's interesting that daughter Carrie got her this job (she works at the same branch), and son-in-law Drew got me my job. That's probably a little backwards in that it usually seems to be the parents finding jobs for their children through their connections, but... we are happy they did so.
I don't think either one of us thought it would take this long for Jane to find another job when she quit the bank in December. Granted, she has turned down a couple of jobs (full-time banking), and she's been close to getting some other full-time jobs; she has also been told by a number of people not to worry because they would "find a job for her." Yada yada... you know how that goes.
Anyway, I think we are both happy with the Y. She worked at a facility very similar to a Y years ago when the kids were young. She was actually the original office staff member there. We are also both looking forward to taking advantage of the facilities and different classes offered at the various Y's in town. In fact, I drive right past Jane's branch on my way to work, and there is another just down the street from my office. Either one will be equally convenient for me. Now I just need to get motivated to start, and reorganize my schedule to make it work.
I am very happy for my dear and think this job will be a really good fit for her. I am so glad she didn't have to get back into banking (at least now), and I'm not at all disappointed she is starting on a part-time basis. Hopefully this is a sign of better things to come.
