Feeling the heat

We finally turned our heat on. I don't know why I always try and wait as long as possible to turn it on. I suppose it's some kind of challenge. Anyway, it got down to 58f Sunday and Jane was nagging the heck out of me (not really), so I finally caved and turned it on.

I bet you can't guess what happened... Ha! It didn't work. The furnace did run, and it even produced heat, but it didn't last. So I changed the batteries in the thermostat a few times, went downstairs and looked at the furnace while scratching me head, and could not figure out what the deal was. So we waited another day.

I was planning to call the repairman Monday (yesterday) when I got home from work at 9 am, but first I wanted to try my hand again. So I pulled the thermostat off the wall and put it back, then I went downstairs and opened the furnace door and pushed the sensor switch in and out a couple times. I came back upstairs and, I'm not sure which it was that helped, but it's worked ever since.

I didn't think it was anything serious, that's why I hated to call the repair man. At any rate, we now have a heated house. I'm not near as worried about it as I used to be since we have the gas fireplace in the basement. It can get things quite toasty downstairs. And I really do prefer sleeping with it a little cooler. Once it gets into the 50's it gets a bit tedious wearing hoodies, scarves and stocking hats inside though.

We generally keep the heat around 62-64 during the day, and then have it set around 68 in the evenings. It then will drop down around 64-66 at night when we're in bed. I don't know what it is about this house, but for as big and open as it is, it is really, really, really economical to keep warm.
