Fort4Fitness 2017
We enjoyed another Fort Wayne Fall Festival run this past Saturday. This was our 6th time (out of 10) to participate in some capacity. I have run 4 half marathons and this was my 2nd 10k for this event. Jane also ran the 10k. Carrie ran the 4 mile.
Jane and I ran together and finished in a respectable (for us) 1:03, so we averaged right about 10-minute miles. That's what we registered for, and is probably better than I was expecting since we haven't trained very well this year. I wasn't even planning to participate in any event just a month or so ago.
There were reportedly 8100 runners total, and I believe they said there were close to 1200 for the 10k. In addition to that they also have a 4 mile, half, and full marathon. It's a totally fun day for us, and this was the 10-year anniversary of the event.
I just learned this year the reasoning behind the Fall Festival stemmed from a national study that somehow named Fort Wayne one of the fattest cities. So I think it's kind of neat that someone took it upon themselves to do something about that. I'd say it has increased physical fitness awareness quite a bit.
I actually felt better than I thought, both during the run and after. I was pretty heavy this year (just under 170), but our last mile was our fastest, and the first was probably the slowest. I could have run further but was quite content to stop at 6.2 miles. There is still a part of me that would like to do a full marathon at some point, but I feel very thankful just being able to run at all.
We now have a couple more runs to do in October. The Y has a 5k/10k (we haven't decided yet which we will do), and a friend from Bluffton is in charge of another event in October that is a 5k or something. We have also always wanted to do a Thanksgiving run, so maybe this will be the year. Who knows.
