Quick trip home

Last weekend we made a quick trip to Buda. I had to work Saturday until 2 pm so we left after that and returned to the Fort on Monday (Memorial Day).

We didn't do much - visited with my parents and Jane's brother Mark and his wife, and I mowed my parent's lawn - but the main reason for the trip was to see our old friends John and Jennifer. They are missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators serving in Ireland at the moment. They were home for a month-long break (I think), so we got together Monday morning before we left. We met them, along with Mark, at McDonald's in Princeton.

They are a unique and interesting couple. We got to know them years ago at the church just south of Buda. John was a farmer and Jennifer used to be a nurse in Ireland, but I don't believe she ever practiced in the states. We were involved in various small groups, bible studies, and whatnot together. One day they felt called to do support work with Wycliffe, so John left the family farming business and they've been moving around the globe ever since.

It's crazy to think that John used to spend most of his time working with his hands on the farm or in the shop and now he travels pretty extensively and does mostly computer and networking-type work. He is presently excited about work they're doing in Hungary and a couple other places I can't recall right now. Jennifer does a lot of organizing and hospitality-related work for missionaries and events too.

So... that's pretty much all we did on this last trip home. I guess we did go to Hill Church in Kewanee. They were having it at the park on this particular Sunday. It was nice, and it was a nice weekend.
