Trip home

We took another quick trip back to Buda this past weekend. We left after work Friday night and returned to the Fort Sunday after lunch.

My sister and her youngest son were at my parent's house when we arrived Friday night. The occasion we were all there was for a wedding in Peoria Saturday (our cousin's son). Jane took my mom and my sister to the wedding, and I stayed with my dad while they were gone (he can't stay alone).

Not much at all happened while we were there. We just hung out and I watched a lot of TV. It was, fortunately, pretty uneventful all the way around. So much so that I watched several of the Rocky movies, and I actually watched the movie 'Tombstone' twice back-to-back. We did watch the Belmont Stakes when it was on. Dad tried to keep score or something during the horse race, and he would get confused during the movies when commercials came on, but I was just glad he never freaked out or anything.

My dad and I have never had a good relationship. Ever. That is confounded now by the fact that reconciliation is no longer a possibility. He still knows who I am (most of the time), but he doesn't know what I do or sometimes where I live. So it's a bit sad, tragic, and a relief all at the same time. Sure, there are still some moments of clarity for him, but for the most part I'm not sure he thinks about it. I suppose I am sometimes not all that different...

Anyway, that was that for this visit. We will be returning in another couple weeks. I'm glad it's no farther away than it is.
