Jane and I ran in "The Big Run 2018" last Wednesday evening. It is a nationwide event put on by Fleet Feet Sports on Global Running Day. Runners across the country participate in a 5k and there are both local and national results compiled together. Thus the "big."
It was fun, I guess. I was surprised there were only around 150 runners in Fort Wayne. They held it at the Indian Trails park near the Jorgensen YMCA. It would have been nicer had the restrooms not been locked. :(
Jane and I did okay. We didn't set any records, but we ran it in under 30 minutes (28-something). We were happy with that. My boss and one of my co-workers also ran the event, as well as several people who work out at my Y.
In addition to receiving the usual t-shirt and finishers medal, we both also received the first medal from the YMCA Race Series we are registered in. The last thing we need is more medals, but it was free to register for, and after completing all our runs this summer we will get another t-shirt! I know... whatever.
Anyway, as an event... I'm beginning to think maybe Fleet Feet events aren't the most organized things in the world. It would appear maybe a lot of the same people show up at them, so they all kind of know what to do/expect. However, for those of us who don't, it seems a bit... well... it was "okay."
At any rate, here are a couple pics:
