My 5k & 5m


I have lately been trying to work on my 5k time (well, not really "work on," but at least decrease it). Last week I lowered it three successive times in a row. It culminated in this 27:14 at the Indoor 5k on Saturday. That was almost an entire minute faster than my previous best two days before.

Although, I'm using "best" not as in "best ever"... but "best I can recall." I really don't know what my fastest 5k time has been. Seems I ran a 24-something outside several years ago, yet I'm not even sure about that. Most of my 5k's are more of the "fun run" variety, or Jane and I just running together.

In addition to the 5k Saturday, I was also due to run 5 MILES for my 1/2 marathon training. So I snapped this pick at the 3.1-mile mark, and then kept going another 2 miles. I slowed the pace some for the remainder.

I would like to try to do some speed work this summer. Not that I mind running like an old man, but it would be nice to shave some time off the marathon, and even 5k's. I'm never going to "win" any of these events - even in my age group - but it's more of a personal thing. Yet, I was plenty happy just to break 28 minutes again on Saturday.

So, there's that...
