Study questions

If I'm honest, I really miss being in a small group/bible study type thing. It's somewhat of a challenge with my sleep/work schedule right now. I like to be in bed by 8 pm during the week. But... egads... is it not possible to find a few people who can commit to gathering once in awhile for edification, friendship and fun (maybe call it an 'eff-ing' group)?

Anyway, I randomly ran across these three questions I apparently used in a small group study at some point in the past. I believe it was something we'd done on Wednesday nights during Lent a number of years ago. We got together and everyone brought their own food, then we read a passage of Scripture together, and talked through these three questions (I think they may have come from Stuart Briscoe):
  1. What? (What is this saying?)
  2. So what? (So what does it mean?)
  3. Now what? (Now what will I do as a result?)
I'd apparently forgotten all about these, but I love the simplicity.

On a related note, I follow a 'WholyFit Christian Fitness' thing on Facebook, and the other day they posted a little blurb on "How To Meditate." They broke it down like this:
  • Read John 1:1 in 3 different translations
  • Rephrase in your own words
  • Ask 3 questions:
    • What does this say about God?
    • What does this say about people?
    • How can you put feet on this verse?
I'm not as in love with these 3 questions as the ones above, but I am a fan of this type format - whether for personal meditation or group study.

So, this is what I've been pondering lately. Simple stuff; sustainable stuff; good stuff... that I miss.
