Hello, new park

Fort Wayne has a new park. It is beautiful!

I am not the person to ask about how much the new Promenade Park cost, or how long it took to unveil step one. You can read about those details elsewhere. I'm a person who works just down Harrison Street from it, and who thinks it is simply splendid!

I took pictures and videos from the grand opening celebration this past weekend. They just do not do it justice though. The ones included here were taken off social media from professionals. They still fail to capture the awesome immensity of the pavilion, two band shells, playground, adult swings, tree canopy trails, boat docks, ampitheater, kids canal, bioswale, greenscape steps, outdoor games, right down to the convergence sculpture and Wells Street bridge.

We attended Friday night, Saturday afternoon and evening, and again Sunday afternoon and evening. I was blown away by the crowd Friday and again Saturday, but there were still soooo many people Sunday afternoon. It was so great to see so many people (and pets) come out and enjoy the festivities. Mayor Henry's team is to be commended. I can only imagine Tim Smith was out checking on people's garbage for them.

On a personal note, I am happy for Fort Wayne Outfitters (just across the way). They've been holding on for dear life these past couple years with limited access to their building - but now they are front and center to provide water craft and host all sorts of exciting stuff along the river! I know many of the employees there, as they have a bike shop in the building where I work (right across from my desk). They were busy all weekend, and I hope it all pays off well for them.

There was a lot I wanted to say about this over the past few days. All day Friday people downtown were talking about it. You could feel the anticipation in the air! Now it's a reality, and I can't wait to have lunches there with m'Lady, as well as attend other events throughout the year.

All I can think to say right now is... Well done, Fort Wayne! You have a great new park!!
