Like christmas at work
We got a washer and dryer at my workplace yesterday! I am so happy, it's almost like Christmas morning at work. I'm on the third load of laundry and it's only 7:30 am!
Apparently when they built this Y they didn't think they would need to wash the towels we provide for people. There are sweat towels, cleaning towels, and towels on the machines people use to wipe off the equipment. It's just another example of poor planning for this facility.
Anyway, for three years they've had to rely on another branch to wash the towels and transport them back and forth. In the two years I have worked here it has been a constant source of anxiety, anger, and caused all kinds of strife among the staff at both places. We always seemed to be running out of towels, and no one ever seemed to think it should be their responsibility. Systems are not something anyone seems to do very well around here.
My boss never seemed to excited about having our own washer and dryer. I heard him say more than once - as he was complaining about us not having any towels again - that "I don't want my staff doing laundry all the time!" Yet the staff kept telling him we would rather do that than every day be running out of towels. Plus, what else are we supposed to do?
So... here we are. We don't have a ton of towels, but we need them cleaned each and every day. So we just bought a residential set from Lowe's and the maintenance guy installed them yesterday afternoon. They're in the room right by the front desk, so it's easy as pie for me to wash and dry in the morning when I'm here. That way I also get to fold the towels, because I'm a little nutty about people who don't fold them "just right."
It's actually been a good day at work on this Friday morning! :) Yay!
