The new/old teal couch

We bought this cool old "retro" couch at a garage sale down the street yesterday.

There was a community-wide garage sale in our neighborhood. As Jane and I returned from a run we spotted this bright blue/green/teal sofa clear down the block. When we approached it we saw a "3" and a "0" on the price tag, and I just assumed it was $300. I couldn't believe it was actually only $30!

We stopped and looked it over, and I sat on it, then we went on our way. After a brief discussion, I headed back and bought it! I didn't realize there was another couple there who were considering it, but I plopped my money down, and that was that!

It was just a couple blocks from our house, so I went home and we got the trusty Ford Escape, and hauled it home sticking slightly out the back.

It's a heavy old cuss, from back in the day when they used real wood and metal. It's in really good condition though. There is just one little corner of a cushion where the vinyl is torn. I also ripped off the bottom cloth - it was pretty much shredded from age.

While we still had it in the garage I started cleaning the vinyl. I used this stuff called "LA's Totally Awesome" cleaner and wiped it down first. Then I took a scrub brush to it. It was amazing how grimy it must have been without us realizing it. Then I sprayed on some Armour All vinyl polish, and holy cow... it looks brand new!!!

For now we have it in the room we keep for our granddaughter. The purple walls and pink carpet really make the color look different, but other than being cleaner and shinier, it's the same color.

We are hoping maybe Anna will want it in her room at their new house, but if she doesn't, it fits pretty nicely where it is.

I do have to say, I was pretty impressed with how it turned out. We could always sell it if nothing else, and get way more than we paid for it. As for now, I think it's pretty cool though. :)
