I had my routine 6-month doctor check-up yesterday. It was fine, as usual. There were four items of note:
- I was in and out almost before my scheduled appointment time! The appointment was for 2 pm. I arrived at 1:45. As soon as I sat down the nurse said I could come back to a room. She checked my blood pressure, and as soon as she walked out, the doctor walked in not a minute later! Those are nice doctor visits.
- My bp was 140/84 (which he thinks is great!). My weight was 159 (clothed). That's 8 pounds less than it was before last year's marathon, and 13 pounds lighter than I was at my check-up 6 months ago. I was pretty happy about that.
- I asked about my umbilical hernia again. Just like last time, he said he would refer me to this guy. I am to call his office when I want to arrange a visit. This is the first time my doctor has said that my insurance would probably cover it though. He also didn't think I would need any mesh - just stitch the muscle together (or something like that). So, after this marathon, I think I will investigate.
- The major news, though, is that he asked me to come back in 5 months instead of 6. Because my doctor is RETIRING!!! He wanted to make sure he had me all set up on meds, and he's hoping to find some people to refer his patients to.
So, it was a somewhat bittersweet doctor visit. All good things, but for the first time in like 20 years, I will need to begin the search for a new doctor. Such is life...
