Lyle lovett at the clyde

We spent Saturday night taking in a concert with Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group. It was at the lovely Clyde Theatre in Fort Wayne, just a few blocks from our house. What a great show!

While neither of us actually own any Lyle Lovett music, we are both huge fans. I do listen to him on Pandora and Spotify from time to time. This is the second or third time we've seen him in concert, but the first time with his four-piece Acoustic Group. They were phenomenal as well.

There is not a lot of information on the Acoustic Group, but all four are accomplished musicians. They played guitar, fiddle, cello, stand-up bass, and mandolin. They've also all been with him for a number of years.

Lyle's music incorporates elements of country, folk, blues, jazz, swing and gospel. He is also an amazing story-teller, and has a comedic presence that can stir laughter without him speaking a word! It's hard to explain, but he just makes you feel better! I like that.

The concert started a little after 8 pm, and I'm guessing he played until 10:30 or so. There was no intermission. I did like how, a couple times, Lyle let the band play some of their own music. Rather than leave the stage, though, he took a chair behind them and listened intently. He comes off as a true gentleman and really swell guy.

This was our first 'seated' concert at the Clyde. It was okay, but they are simple plastic chairs that are hooked together. There's not a lot of room. Also, we had a couple behind us who were total jerks during the entire show. They were talking, laughing, and he would sing out loud now and then. It wasn't really 'that kind of show,' and it was starting to make my blood boil. We finally just moved to an open spot in the back of the room.

Anyway, it was a splendid evening (minus the jerks). I could listen to Lyle sing, play guitar, and tell stories forever. Very nice.

**On a side note: Lyle is famous for having briefly been married to Julia Roberts. I did not know they got married in Marion, Indiana! Well, how 'bout that! Apparently they are still very good friends.
