Oil change in the escape

Since when did it become so difficult/easy to get an oil change?

I was about 5,000 miles overdue for an oil change on the 2011 Ford Escape. I rarely drive it out of town anymore so I wasn't worried. Anyhew, I thought I would call the place where we always USED to take our vehicles for service. The family that owned the place attended the church I pastored, and they were super nice people. Well, the son has now taken over the business... and runs it more as a modern-day business, than a customer-service oriented family business it had been the previous two or three generations.

So, I call there yesterday, and the phone-answerer says he can't get me in until next Wednesday. When I say "ok" and tell him I just need an oil change, he says they do those in the morning. I said I could have the car there just after lunch. He repeats, "Well, we only schedule oil changes for in the morning." I repeated, "I work at 5 am and can't be there until the afternoon." He finally relents and says I could bring it in at 1 pm a week and a day later, but they prefer to do oil changes in the morning.

To be honest, as soon as I hung up, I was pissed off. We've been taking our vehicles there for over 20 years and never once had an issue (or major issue anyway). So I called back half an hour later and cancelled the appointment.

There are dozens of places I can get my oil changed ON THE SAME DAY in this town. So today I went to Walmart, walked in, got my oil changed, and walked out in less than half an hour.

Did I want to go to Walmart for an oil change? Heck no! But do I like being jerked around? Even less.

Long story short... I got the oil changed in the 2011 Ford Escape yesterday afternoon at Walmart. It was just over $30.
