Anna's birthday

Man, I really lagged on the blogging this week. I suppose I should at least get out the main highlight of the week: our grand daughter turned nine years old!

Anna-Bug (as I call her) is the oldest of our grandchildren, and the only granddaughter. Not that I have a "favorite," but if I did, it would be her. If for no other reason than she was the first.

She's a cute and quirky kid who marches to the beat of her own drummer, and dresses accordingly.

This year we got her some kind of "slime" kit (which we actually bought for her for X-mas but her parents bought her the same thing, so we saved it for this birthday... and her parents bought her the same thing. Again). Jane also bought her a shirt, and my contribution was a children's "Gratitude Journal."

The big thing was supposed to be taking everyone to the local Hibachi Japanese steakhouse (Takaoka). We did this for everyone at Christmas last year, and it didn't work out this year, but Anna asked about it, so we thought we would do it for her birthday. It was a fun time, and at least two of the three grand kids seemed to enjoy it. It also ended up that we didn't have to pay. I had planned on it, even though it would have been the equivalent of one week's salary for me, but apparently someone else took care of it.

Anyway, it was a fun time, and even though it seems I hardly ever see the grand kids anymore, I am glad they are right here in town and we do get to be a part of their lives even a little bit.

For the record, while the women were in Illinois this weekend, I did have the boys most of the morning and early afternoon on Saturday. We built ships and watched TV. A near-perfect way to spend a Saturday.

**The pic was taken at Takaoka after we ate. A is doing her mom's new short hair, with C watching. That's B in the background laying on the chairs. Haha.
