Sunday seven

Whether Sunday is the first day of the week or last doesn't matter. Here are seven things:

  1.  We attended a little party for the youngest grandchild yesterday, who happens to turn 7 this coming week.
  2. I'm feeling a bit ridiculous for a couple reasons. My last post (Friday) was about having a chat with a pastor, and my internal desire to want to help others. It occurred to me sometime after that: Why do I always think that when someone wants to talk to me, it's because they want my help?? It never occurs to me that maybe they think I need THEIR help! That's actually probably the case more times than not, and I think too highly of myself to realize it. Ugh.
  3. I also found out - or had it confirmed - that my boss has applied for another job. Now I'm feeling that 'be-careful-what-you-wish-for' regret. I admit, I've often fantasized about what it would be like if I were the boss. Honestly, though, I don't think I could do it, don't believe I would have the opportunity even if I did, and am now full of anxiety over how this may play out. I don't even know that he will get this other job. I would be surprised if he doesn't though. I'm feeling a bit sheepish about all my complaining and negative thoughts/energy over the past couple years.
  4. One of these days I should probably look for a real job again anyway. I've been thinking about driving Uber again. I don't really want to, but there are currently so few drivers in town that I could probably make more money. It is definitely not a better job though. Ugh. I don't even know what a better job is. Much less feel capable of doing one.
  5. On a different note, here is a good article on some writing advice from James Baldwin over the years: '"Write A Sentence As Clean As A Bone" and Other Advice From James Baldwin.' Good stuff!
  6. I want to revisit this interesting read, "How to Reduce Digital Distractions: Advice From Medieval Monks." Also some very good and needed stuff in there.
  7. And... I need a place to keep this - "This 5-Move, No-Gym Workout Got Matt Damon Fighting Fit in His Forties." My forties are far in the past, but still some helpful stuff.

So, there ya go. Btw, the pic at the top is from @Nakedpastor (David Hayward). It is both how I feel, and how I don't want to be. I WANT to be part of "the church." I'm just not sure how anymore. And, really, not sure how to do much of anything. It's one of those days/weeks...

"I’m speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that God has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living then, as every one of you does, in pure grace, it’s important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to God. No, God brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him." - Romans 12:3
