I'm sure you've seen the TV commercials where it's suggested someone 'needs a Snickers.' You know, there is actually some truth to that.
I was reading about the HALT method to calming our emotions. HALT stands for:
- Hunger
- Anger
- Lonely
- Tired
If these basic needs aren't met we can do crazy things and make poor decisions. HALT is a tool often utilized in the recovery community, but can be useful for all of us.
The gist is, if we're feeling a bit 'off' emotionally or are irritable, it may be because we're hungry, or mad about something, or lonely, or simply lacking sleep. Addressing these needs first will then help us feel better, and then those around us will be able to feel better too. ;)

I think maybe I could use a snack right about now...
