How I read

If I understand correctly (and I may not), my daughter read 65 books last year. Although, that was just on her e-reader, so it was probably more! That's impressive.

Me, I take a long time to read a book. I made mention of it yesterday in a facebook post. I wanted to explain, but I didn't want it to sound like I was making excuses. Because, actually, I purposely take a long time (plus I do a good amount of reading that's not in books).

The way I read books is to never cover more than one chapter per day. I will read a chapter, think on it for a bit, and then journal my thoughts (usually in my written journal, though sometimes it's also on here).

I don't know that it's the "right" way, or a "better" way, but it's how I like to do it.

See, I'm not so much a "reader-of-books" like my daughter (and she is certainly to be commended). I'm more of a devotional reader. I like how taking a chapter-a-day slows me down. It helps me be more contemplative, and that's how I want to be. It's one of the few things I actually like about myself.

I have no reason to read a lot of books, and rarely do I ever NEED to read anything anymore. It is simply about creating a 'life-pace' for myself. And I like it (for me).

So, here are the books I read in 2022 (it sure seemed like there were more, but probably not):

- Don't You Care That We Are Drowning?, Brian Spahr
- Midwestern Poet’s Incomplete Guide to Symbolism, Erica Anderson-Senter
- Matthew for Everyone (pt. 1), N.T. Wright
- Matthew for Everyone (pt. 2), N.T. Wright
- Kierkegaard for Beginners, Donald D. Palmer
- Having the Mind of Christ, Sternke & Tebbe
- Purity of Heart Is To Will One Thing, Soren Kierkegaard
- Between the Listening and the Telling, Mark Yaconelli
- Seeking God, Trevor Hudson
