Yes, I said reader (singular). I mean, I used to have a way to track stats and all that on this blog. Once upon a time I even tried doing things to gain more readers. But the stat counter no longer works, and I no longer care. Now I only write for one person. You!
Ted Gioia turned me onto this at his substack The Honest Broker. He says he got it from Kierkegaard. In S.K.'s words, every author is indebted to "that single individual whom I with joy and gratitude call my reader."
Trying to write for everyone is hard. I don't think I could do it. That's what I appreciate about writing only for you. It's like we're just having a conversation. I don't have to use big words (or try to use big words - correctly), and it makes the whole thing more enjoyable. Hopefully you can tell. [although, I admit, sometimes I am only writing for poor, poor, pitiful me - which isn't really good for anybody]
Anyway, since we're beginning a new year I just want to say "thanks!" I appreciate you being here. I really, really do.

And thank you for doing what you do. I've often said if I followed stats every post would be about crokinole. "Sounds like a plan," sez a friend.
Thank you.
