Something to be enthusiastic about

I stuck this quote in my archives sometime in the last year. Priest and novelist Charles Kingsley on what makes us happy:

"We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about."

Yeah... I don't disagree with that. I'm not sure being happy is necessarily what it's all about either, but being enthusiastic about something does make it easier to get out of bed in the morning.

If only I were enthusiastic about something...

Do you suppose, for some people at least, that the opposite of comfort and luxury leads to enthusiasm? I mean, those times when we stretch ourselves... put ourselves "out there"... step outside our comfort zones???

As I think back about some of the things I've been enthusiastic about in the past... they all seem to involve something new. A new venture, learning something new, a different location...

Nah, that can't be it. Surely I'm too old to be thinking like that.

Maybe enthusiasm is over-rated.

Maybe at some point "contentment" needs to come into play.

[Mostly I'm just trying to get this piece out of my archives... I got nothin' more]
