The ge profile dryer non-repair

I tore apart our clothes dryer yesterday -- and fixed it! I tightened a screw!

Our GE Profile dryer, model # DNSR473EW0WW, had been making a terrible rattling noise for a month or so. I figured it was going to kick the bucket any day. If I'm not mistaken (which I easily could be), we bought it at Sears when we first moved to the area in August 1999. So I can't believe it still works!

I finally googled a few sites and decided maybe it was the drum rollers or some such thing. So, once I watched the right Youtube video and figured out how to get inside it, I investigated.

It turns out our dryer doesn't even have drum rollers! But I did discover that the BLOWER WHEEL was wobbling all over the place and making the noise! I was all set to order a new one for $60 when I thought maybe I should check the clamp screw and see if I should order one of those too.

Well, guess what? When I checked the clamp screw, it was loose. So... I tightened it up... the wheel quit wobbling, and the noise stopped!!! Maybe that's all I needed to do.

I put everything back together while I could remember how, and am now debating whether I should go ahead and order the blower wheel anyway or not. Did the screw come loose by itself, or did a worn out blower wheel cause the screw to loosen? This is the question. I guess we'll find out.

Anyway, here's some info for when that time comes:

  • searspartsdirect website (https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model/2edi119apo-000432/ge-dnsr473ew0ww-dryer)
  • Blower Wheel
  • Slide Drum (which I've replaced before and need to re-replace at least one again)

I found these two Youtube videos helpful:

All in a days work, my friends. :)
